Frequently Asked Questions
Trip Schedule
Q) When’s the next Nepal trip after this one?
A). You can estimate Nepal will come back again in the travel schedule in roughly 2-3 years. So figure around 2016.
Weather
Q) What will the weather be like?
Views Of Mount Everest
Q) Will we see Sagarmatha (Mount Everest)? A) Seeing Mount Everest is a great delight. We'll have good views of Everest, and our lodge on June 12th was selected specifically because it affords wonderful vistas of the peak, even from some of the bedroom windows. One of the treats there is to sit on their deck with a cup of Sherpa Tea and watch the west wind blow a plume of snow from Everest's summit, or watch at dusk, when the colors change in the early evening. Life On The Trip
Q) If I’ve never traveled with a group before, what should I expect?
A) Our travelers come from a variety of backgrounds. The age range is from the late 20s to the 60s. Their common qualities tend to be that they’re adventurous and friendly. Although we see the sights as a group, you’ll have plenty of free time, so you probably won't have that "tied-to-the-group" feeling.
And each person decides where his or her interest lie. A wife might be drawn to the monasteries and healers. And a husband might be captivated by the mountains and exciting river crossings.
Q) Is this a “roughing it” trip?
A) In Kathmandu we stay in luxurious accommodations. The inn-to-inn section is "adventure travel", and you won't want to expect a chocolate truffle on your turned-down bed. But whereever we go, we always make sure the daily background comforts of food, accommodation, and support staff, are soothing and comfortable. To get a sense of this, take a look at the left side of the home page and click on "About Our Visits To Nepal's Alpine Valleys", and go to "Our Experiences With The Sherpa People".
Q) What if I’m concerned about being away from home and family?
A) We create lots of cushions for that. In your Kathmandu hotel room, you can chat with family by telephone, any time. And on the hiking section of the trip, and larger villages will have a “general store”, with internet and telephone service available for foreign travelers.
Fitness Q) What if I haven’t done much hiking before? Am I in good enough shape for the walking?
A) Most people do fine on the inn-to-inn walking section. And most don’t have a hiking background.
This trip is in June, and it's easier than an Autumn trek, since trails and destinations vary by season. Spring trips are easier because there's less uphill walking. It will be 3 ½ miles on an average day, and you carry only a day pack. This trek is designed for average people, not athletes. The age range on a trek can be from twenties to seventies. And we want you to be comfortable on the trail, so along with your background reading, you'll receive a guide to being in good shape. Most people do the prep during the 4 weeks prior to the trip. And the office partners with our travelers, and guides them as they prepare. Click here, for a chart of daily walking distances and altitudes. www.nepaladventure2013.com//cms.php
Food
Q) What will the food be like? How will it work if I have special diet needs?
A) Kathmandu is a cosmopolitan capital, where you can find pretty much anything.
On the inn-to-inn section, dinner always start with soup. Then there a variety of comfort foods (mac & cheese, spaghetti), and also local favorites such as noodle dishes and rice & lentils. For a complete picture of this, click on "A Day At A Mountain Inn", in the "About Out Visits To Nepal Alpine Valleys" link. And our cooking staff can accommodate vegetarian, wheat-free, vegan, non-gluten, low sodium, and lots of other diets.
